SMT Machine Operator - Assembly

Position Description:

Operates SMT automatic assembly equipment. Responsible for set-up, operations and routing maintenance.  Reads production schedules and operations manuals, as well as receiving verbal instructions, regarding sequential start-up and operation. Performs preventive maintenance tasks. Records preventive maintenance and cleaning activities on logs. Returns substandard boards to workers for rework.  Tends equipment involved in chemically cleaning PWB assemblies. Helps assure that equipment is clean. Visually inspects cleaned assemblies for blemishes. Maintains production reports and undertakes activities as assigned/required. Performs advanced repetitive work station or line assembly operations, specifically operates the through-hole or Surface Mount Technician (SMT)  automatic assembly equipment. May also perform any of the following essential duties and responsibilities under one or more identified options:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operates through-hole or SMT automatic assembly equipment: Responsible for set-up, operations and routing maintenance. Typically an experienced assembler promoted with both on the job training and classroom/formal training
  • Controls and monitors operation of the selective solder machine to solder electronic components to printed circuit board. Reads production scheduled and operations manuals, as well as receiving verbal instructions, regarding sequential start-up and operation of wave soldering machine. Moves controls to activate machines or system modules, such as flux, pre-heater, wave soldering units, conveyors, etc. Adjusts machine controls to regulate operating speeds, machine temperatures, flux and solder wave according to pre-determined standards. Adds supplies to reservoirs of machines, such as flux and solder. Adjusts dimensional and structural characteristics or conveyor pallets and rails used to hold and transport PWBs through wave soldering process using instruments and hand tools, such as micrometers, dial indicators, pin gauges, wrenches and screwdrivers.
  • Loads boards on conveyor lines. Records setting of machine before and after adjustments are made. Monitors indicators during soldering process. Shuts down machine following prescribed procedures. Drains and fills flux reservoirs according to length of use and established replacement times. Skim dross from surface of molten solder pots. Cleans parts and interior of machine.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks. Records preventive maintenance and cleaning activities on logs. Returns substandard boards to workers for rework.
  • Tends equipment involved in chemically cleaning PWB assemblies. Helps assure that equipment is clean. Visually inspects cleaned assemblies for blemishes. Maintains production reports and undertakes activities as assigned.
  • Reflow Ovens. Operates Reflow Oven assembly equipment.  Responsible for set-up, operations and routine maintenance.  Records preventive maintenance and cleaning activities on logs.
  • Solder Paste Inspection (SPI). Operates SPI assembly equipment.  Responsible for set-up, operations and routine maintenance.  Records preventive maintenance and cleaning activities on logs.
  • Automated Printers. Operate automated assembly printer equipment. Responsible for set-up, operations and routine maintenance.  Typically an experienced assembler promoted with both on the job training and classroom/formal training.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, Certifications Etc. (preferred but not required)

J-STD 001 Certified
Familiar with BOMs, Drawings, Schematics
Smart Tweezers and Calipers

  • Ability to read and follow written instructions
  • Ability to speak, read, and neatly write English
  • Ability to process high school level mathematics
  • Ability to work together as part of a team under limited supervision or independently

 

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Basic computer skills

 

Required Internal Training:

  • HCI Orientation
  • All pertaining process procedures that relate to job function

 

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand and sit.  The employee is frequently required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools. The employee is required to frequently reach with hands and arms, manipulate parts in repetitive motions;  stoop, kneel; and talk to hear.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or up to 50  pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, a depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
The noise  level in the work environment is usually very loud.
